Update

So far the wean off hasn’t been as bad as the last couple of things I had to wean off of. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t fun, but I was braced for something much worse so hurray for me. Obviously I’m in more pain now, but it doesn’t seem that much worse than it was when I was on my last pain pill. Kent tells me that he can tell that I feel worse now than I did then, I’ll take his word for it, but I’m glad I haven’t really noticed. Although really I guess how do you “remember” something like pain accurately?

As far as the current state of things, Kent and I are perfectly fine even if it seems everyone else has lost it. The two of us aren’t panicking or flipping out, who knew it would be such a bonus to be anti-social? I’m not going to wade into the argument about how bad this virus actually is and so on, but there are a few things I would like to comment on.

Remember that for every coveted item you buy, someone else can’t. Obviously, if you need toilet paper, buy toilet paper, but if you chose to buy 4-24 packs of toilet paper for two people (not that most stores let you anymore) when you already have plenty at home, you are ultimately kind of being a dick and actually adding to some of the panic. Think about it, you hear some worrisome news, you go to the grocery store to discover most of the stuff you need gone, empty shelf after empty shelf… What would your reaction be? Would you just shrug it off and calmly buy the few things you need, or are you going to freak out that you won’t be able to find the food to feed your family and start buying out stuff yourself? Yeah, you know what your answer is most likely to be. Seeing empty shelves and not finding basic stuff can’t help but freak people out and I mean all of us, it’s a knee jerk reaction.

I understand we all tend to be much more interested in taking care of our own first, so maybe you don’t care about whether or not someone else can buy anything. I’d like to make another point. If you buy hand sanitizer you know you don’t technically need, and someone you have close contact with therefore had none, what do you think that means? Aren’t they more likely to get sick? Who cares you say? We all should because if the people around us aren’t protected they are more likely to get sick. If anyone you have to come in any contact with gets sick, you are much more likely to get sick. Maybe that sounded confusing so I’ll try to find a better way to explain it. If you are in a room with a bunch of people who could all also find sanitizer and managed to protect themselves, don’t you think you’d be better off than if you are in a room with people who didn’t have sanitizer and might have come in contact with someone else in the same position?

I think what I’m saying is, please think of other people before you buy a bunch of stuff you know you don’t need. Yes, this is a scary situation, and we’ve all seen too many scary movies that start like this, but as of right now you are doing more harm than good by hoarding stuff.

On a somewhat lighter and less preachy scale, I do find some of the stuff bought out amusing, if annoying. I can’t find flour. To be exact I went to 5 different stores, 3 of which were local Costco offshoots looking for bread flour, I didn’t even need regular flour, and found zero flour at all. No regular, no bread flour, no cake flour, no almond flour, NOTHING, not even those HUGE restaurant-sized bags! Most people don’t do any baking, so what are they doing with all this flour?! I understand buying out dried beans, pasta, canned beans and the like, but flour? Weird huh? But dang it, I actually really need flour! I keep thinking “oh! I’m going to bake xyz….oh. right. Nevermind.”

Finally, I’ve finished my writing “Sarah Frix” website, well more or less, and I’ll post the link to it sometime soon. I say, more or less, because there are some pictures up that are mostly place holders until I have something actually book related to put up. Plus I haven’t written a bio and a few other random things, but I think it’s done enough. It’s just sarahfrix.com but I’ll post an actual link in case anyone wants to forward it to people they know that are into paranormal romace/erotica.

Plus stay safe and sane out there people, but remember there are other people out there too.
