Windstone momma Kirin

This was another case of a busted up sculpture. It was just jacked enough I was like “Fuck it, I’m doing my own thing.” I can usually make things look like they originally did in most cases, but there is a certain point where I’m repainting enough that I may as well do my own thing. The only problem with that is breaking enough of the glaze off the original to get the new paint to stick.

She originally came with brown eyes, which just did not look good with her new paint colors, so I popped the old ones out, sanded off the paint and painted my own. I’m actually really proud of the eyes. I did try to order replacement eyes in different colors, but I didn’t find any that looked good. The only down side was one eye lid got busted up, but in the end I think that’s a good thing. The upper lid had already been damaged and repaired, I suspect by the way the lower lid broke away that it had also been damaged and it was just held together by paint. So I’m actually glad it broke off, I would have been pissed if I had repainted it and THEN it had broken free.

Despite having some issues with sanding it the way I wanted it, she turned out really pretty. Each scale is hand painted, it was a pain as each one has a darker and lighter shade, but it turned out well.
