Leaf “patch”
The continuing story of my leaf patchy pants, yes, my pants have stories. ;)
Last time I posted about these pants I had a worn-out spot that I didn’t know what to do with, should I remove a few patches so I could lay out new patches in different positions? That’s a lot of work.
I decided to do something different that I had never done before on pants, well not in the way I did it here anyway. I removed a leaf that wasn’t well placed for my plans and lifted up a leg of a larger more elaborate leaf that I didn’t want to lose. Then, instead of laying a patch over the hole, I effectively lay one under the hole. I cut out my leaf shape, carefully placed so all of the worn fabric was cut away, placed my patch fabric under the hole, and sew/embroidered about 1/4” from the cut edge. I put a couple of extra layers of fabric under the whole thing to stiffen up everything up. After that, I reattached my removed leaf leg partially over the new patch. Eventually, the edges around the leaf will fray in the wash which will make it sort of match the edges of the old leaves.
I actually quite like this solution, the only thing I don’t care for is the dark shadow from under the old patch, but really that would be the case with most solutions. To kind of balance, the pants out I pulled a leaf on the other side that was half gone and did a reverse applique on that leg too.
Now the only thing I need to do is figure out a problem I have going on at the bottom of one leg.
